Welcome to the home page of the Australian Federation of Social Dancers

Are you a social dancer or representative of a social dance group? If so, we invite you to join us.

The AFSD was formed from a meeting of dancers at the 2010 National Folk Festival and has since expanded to include dance musicians and other interested supporters.

The Federation is administered by an invited Steering Committee, which provides a contact in every state and territory in Australia.

While our Discussion Group was initially established to pursue issues related to the NFF, it has more recently expanded to include non-NFF attendees, musicians and other supporters and now provides a useful and enjoyable forum for dancers and dance musicians to keep in touch with the rest of the dancing community.

The AFSD actively supported the NFF in its recent 'Rolling The Ball' campaign, which involved dancers donating money toward establishing "a beautiful new dance floor in a permanent covered structure". We are delighted to report that the target of $20,000 was not only met, but exceeded, and continues to rise, as more and more donations are made.

The Objectives of the AFSD:

  1. To support and encourage social dancers of all traditions in Australia by providing a national web-based forum
  2. To raise the profile of social dance at the NFF and in the wider community
  3. To provide a national resource for communication, discussion and sharing of information between dancers and dance group
  4. To represent the members of our dancing fraternity with integrity and total transparency, while respecting different viewpoints.

If you would like to engage in some vibrant, dance related discussion while enjoying companionable contact with members of our dancing fraternity, then please, do Join AFSD. Membership is free.
